2012 Sounds That Matter Music Awards

The Grammy’s are coming and I’m sure I’m not the only one who is slightly disappointed with the nominees. Every year, it’s a race between some artists who deserve to be recognized for their work and others who are spotlighted for their overnight success. There are millions of undiscovered bands/artists who only dream to have their own chance at gracing the Grammy stage, and since the industry is so over-saturated with talent, it’s hard for anyone to imagine holding the famous golden statue. I want more when it comes to music awards. This year, instead of rolling my eyes while watching untalented artists win awards, I’m throwing my own award ceremony. Let’s shed some light on the much deserved talent that worked their asses off playing on small stages or straining their vocal chords just so you could hear an encore. This is the Sounds That Matter Music Awards; let’s celebrate the music that gets us through our lives.

Each category will list five nominees. Fans will vote on their favorite nominee and the winners will be chosen on February 12. The winners of each category will be spotlighted on Sounds That Matter for the rest of the month. Here is the really exciting part. The award for Artist Of The Year will win a prize package that’s perfect for any tour: Includes a $100 gas card, alcohol (if you don’t drink, then something else will be provided), snacks, movies, and drum roll please….the ultimate exposure on your band! You will be featured as the Artist Of The Month for March plus your banner will be live on the website. I wish you all the best of luck and may the best of the best win.

AND THE WINNERS ARE…

Artist Of The Year – Gun Lake

Record Of The Year – No One Listens to the Band Anymore by The Damnwells

Song Of The Year – Werewolves by The Damnwells

Best Duo – Bella Ruse

Best Vocal – Gun Lake

Best Band – Gun Lake

Best Solo Artist – Kristen May

Best New Artist – The Mount Rushmores

Best Video – The Greatest Way by Squid the Whale

Most Anticipated Album – The Daylight EP by Andrew Belle

Congratulations to all of the winners! East of the winners will be spotlighted on the front page of Sounds That Matter for the rest of February. Look out for their features all this week. The breakout band, Gun Lake, will be the Artist Of The Month for March. Along with that, they will receive a special care package including some cash, alcohol, snacks, and maybe a few more surprises!

Thank you all so much for participating in the Awards this year! Its been such a fun experience. Until next year music lovers…
